Description

The Iredell County Public Library will be hosting the Smithsonian exhibit "Voices and Votes: Democracy in America" from April 17 to May 28. The exhibit includes historical and contemporary photos, educational videos, multimedia interactives, and historical objects related to American democracy. The Statesville library will also be hosting a series of programs during this time period centered around voting and democracy.

Join us as we read the first 7 chapters in “What You Need to Know About Voting and Why” by Kim Wehle. We’ll read and discuss: the process of registering to vote, early, absentee and provisional voting, ballot and voting machine confusion, the legal protections and limits to the right to vote, the Electoral College, primaries and nominations, and the representation in the House of Representatives versus the Senate. Without discussing specific elections or the politics of either party, we’ll look at the mechanics of voting and the necessary steps to be an active participant in the electoral process.

Register and collect your copy of the book at the front desk of the Statesville library beginning April 1st.
